Sibyl

She Knows Your World Better Than You Do

Project Overview

Writing a novel means holding an entire universe in your head - every character's history, every timeline, every relationship, every contradiction. Sibyl is an AI guide designed to know that universe as deeply as the author does, and to surface the connections, inconsistencies, and opportunities that no human can track across hundreds of thousands of words.

Sibyl is designed to work hand-in-hand with Misenous, our novel-writing platform. Where Misenous provides the structure and tools for writing, Sibyl provides the intelligence - the deep, persistent understanding of what a story is and how all its pieces fit together.

Overview & Challenges

The Limits of Keeping It All in Your Head

Every novelist faces the same scaling problem. In the first few chapters, you can track the details: who knows what, which characters have met, what the weather was during a key scene, whether that minor character's eye color changed between chapters two and seventeen. But as a story grows - especially across a series - the complexity outpaces human memory. Contradictions creep in. Timelines drift. Characters behave inconsistently not because the author intended it, but because the author forgot.

Existing tools approach this problem with spreadsheets, wikis, or basic note-taking. They require the author to do the indexing work manually - maintaining a separate database of facts about their own story. That's backwards. The information already exists in the manuscript. What's missing is something that can read the entire world, understand the relationships within it, and guide the author through the implications of every creative decision.

The challenge is building a system that doesn't just search text, but truly understands narrative structure: cause and effect, character arcs, thematic threads, temporal consistency, and the difference between an intentional mystery and an accidental plothole.

Summary

A Prophetess for Your Story's World

Sibyl is a domain-specific AI system built to serve as the definitive expert on a single story's universe. Named after the ancient prophetesses who knew everything about a world and guided people through it, Sibyl ingests the complete context of a novel or series - characters, locations, events, relationships, timelines, and thematic elements - and provides intelligent guidance that no general-purpose AI can match.

Sibyl isn't a replacement for the author's creative judgment. It's the assistant that never forgets, never loses track, and never needs to be re-briefed. It's the difference between asking a general-purpose AI "tell me about my character" and having an intelligence that already knows every scene that character has appeared in, every relationship they've formed, and every contradiction in how they've been portrayed.

Solution & Results

World Knowledge, Not Word Processing

Sibyl is being designed to operate on top of the rich data architecture that Misenous already provides. Misenous organizes novels into a deep hierarchy - series, books, chapters, scenes, drafts - with sophisticated element management for characters, locations, items, and story resources. Every character has tracked traits, relationships to other characters, and connections to specific scenes. Every location has context. Every event has a timeline position.

This isn't a blank-slate AI reading raw text. Sibyl will work with structured, relationship-mapped data that Misenous has already organized. The result is an AI that understands not just what words are on the page, but how the pieces of a story connect to each other.

The integration between Sibyl and Misenous is intentional and central to both products. Misenous is the platform where authors write, organize, and manage their work. Sibyl is the intelligence layer that makes that platform aware of its own contents in a way that goes far beyond search. Together, they represent a complete writing environment where the tools understand the work at the same depth the author does.

Planned capabilities include real-time consistency checking during drafting, relationship-aware character analysis, timeline validation across multi-book series, and intelligent suggestions that account for the full narrative context rather than just the current chapter.

Project Details

Status

Conceptual - in active design

Built For

Novel writers and series authors managing complex fictional worlds

Problem It Solves

Eliminates narrative inconsistencies, surfaces forgotten connections, and provides deep world-knowledge guidance that scales with the story

Relationship to Misenous

Sibyl is designed as the intelligence layer for Misenous, working directly with its structured data architecture. They are separate products that function as a unified writing environment.

Planned Stack

Local LLM inference (Ollama) fed by AIHub's context pipeline, built on Misenous's relationship graph

Target Models

Small, domain-specific language models (Phi-3.5, SmolLM2, Llama 3.2) optimized for narrative understanding

Key Innovation

Operates on structured narrative relationships rather than raw text - understands characters, timelines, and story logic, not just words

Name Origin

Named after the Sibyls of Greek and Roman tradition - prophetesses who knew everything about a world and guided people through it
